Pushing Puerto Rico’s Porte Atlantico

Porte Atlantico, a tourism region on the north coast of the Puerto Rico, will be seeing a significant amount of investment and promotion in 2012. Porte Atlantico comprises the tourist region comprises of the Camuy, Hatillo, Arecibo, Barceloneta, Manati, Vega Baja, Vega Alta, Dorado and Toa Alta municipalities. Stand-out attractions in the region include the Rio Camuy Cave Park, the third-largest cave system in the world; and the Arecibo Observatory, home to the planet’s largest radio telescope and a filming location for the James Bond movie, Goldeneye.

Resort and hotel investment in Porte Atlantico includes the $18 million Holiday Inn Travel Plaza in Arecibo, The $37 million Hyatt Place in Manati, the $35 million Wyndham Barceloneta, and the Dorado Beach Ritz Carlton Reserve, the first six star hotel on the island, scheduled to open December 2012.
