Byron Lee

“I credit musician Byron Lee with bringing the upper, middle and lower classes of Jamaica together. He and his group the Dragonaires would play during Carnival in Kingston and everyone would dance in the streets, all in costume. It started back in the 90s, and it’s the same route now, through Liguanea, Half Way Tree and New Kingston. Byron Lee was a great man.”

Note: Byron Lee and the Dragonaires laid down a popularized version of ska, soca and reggae over a phenomenal six decades. Byron passed on November 4, 2008. During his final years he could often be seen performing at events around the world promoting Jamaica tourism.
