T&T partners with Jamaica to promote the Caribbean at 2012 Olympics

T&T and Jamaica are deep in discussions to partner to promote the Caribbean at the 2012 Olympics in London. George Stanley Beard, chairman of the Tourism Development Company (TDC), recently met with representatives of Jamaica’s public and private sectors to discuss the planned promotion, which they’ve dubbed “Caribbean Calling.”

Beard, along with TDC’s CEO, Lara de Sonpere, met with Sancia Bennett Templer, president of the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO); John Lynch, director/chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board, Earl Jarrett CEO, Jamaica National Building Society and Deputy Chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board. August 2012 marks 50 years of independence for both nations, making the date an ideal part of a strategic focus for promoting Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and the wider region.
The Caribbean Calling initiative is designed to maximize the Caribbean’s exposure and ability to break into new markets. The program is expected to boost tourist arrivals for both destinations and advance a strategic partnership between the TDC and JAMPRO. The Caribbean Calling initiative is open for other Caribbean countries to join, however Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica will begin building the program.
